FAQs about forming a GbR with Holvi
No. For a civil law partnership (GbR), there is generally no legal requirement to hold a separate business account; partners may technically use a private bank account. However, a dedicated business account, such as Holvi’s, ensures financial transparency and clean legal proof of transactions.
The registered civil law partnership (eingetragene GbR or eGbR) was introduced in Germany on January 1 2024, and is recorded in the Company Register (Gesellschaftsregister). This increases operational transparency and gives the GbR full legal capacity – meaning the entity itself can hold rights, assume obligations, purchase property, or sign legal contracts.
For future conversions into other legal forms (such as a GmbH), an eGbR is far more advantageous than a classic GbR, since only an eGbR can be directly converted into other legal forms like a GmbH (updated: 2026).
