FAQs about the Holvi business account for freelancers
No. For freelancers (Freiberufler*innen) it isn’t a legal requirement (only limited companies such as a GmbH or UG must run a separate account). It still makes sense, though: a dedicated account that works out VAT and profit as you go keeps things clear, so you don’t spend money that isn’t actually yours.
In principle yes, but it rarely pays off. Business and private transactions get mixed together. At tax time that means sorting through countless bookings to prove to the tax office what was business. Many banks also don’t allow business use of a private current account and later ask you to switch. This means more effort than a tidy start.
A freelancer account should generally offer:
- a mobile app
- a VAT preview
- profit & loss preview
- receipts attached right to the payment
- invoices sent from the account
- a connection to accounting software or your accountant
- cards for business spending
With Holvi, all of it comes from a single account.
Holvi Flex, up to higher plans with more IBANs, cards and e-invoicing. Compare all plans on the pricing page.
Once you’ve opened online, your IBAN is usually ready to use straight away and the account is live. In some cases, activation takes a little longer. The card follows by post.
Usually an ID card or passport, plus your tax number or VAT ID. There’s a checklist for opening in our Help Centre.
No, opening a Holvi business account as an individual leaves your SCHUFA score untouched. A check only happens if you later apply for a Holvi credit card.
